Artist's Statement
There are four parts to this picture, the selfie itself, the lattice work stone, the flowers behind the lattice, and the floating lights. I took the picture of the lattice work stone when I was in India a while back. It was used so that the women of the aristocracy could look down on whatever it was that was happening, whilst not being seen themselves. The flowers are a picture that I took in my garden and they're zinnias, which are my favorite type of flower. The last part of my picture are the lightbulbs. The lightbulbs hang on my patio and my family has them lit throughout the summer during the nights.

Qui N'Avance Pas, Recule
I took this selfie on a whim because the glitter on my face caught the sun's light really well, and I took the background for the Landscape project and decided not to use it because I was using other versions of it. I really liked the way that the colors looked, but I had to adjust the vibrance and contrast because my camera was washing out the natural colors. I used the quote, "Qui n'avance pas, recule", which is a french saying with no known origin; its literal translation is: They who don't advance, recede. What it tries to tell is that if you don't move forward and evolve, you will get swept away and devolve.
